Just listened to Jon Chase. Interesting what he had to say about NLP. I guess nlp would be useful for the client who comes along to a practioner and doesn't want to be hypnotised. You are bringing their subconcious to the front with your choosen words allowing similar access as for someone in light trance, prosumably this is why the anchoring and collapsing are effective. Covert hypnosis for the hypnophobic.

Great Site, Nathan! Keep up the good work. It's great hearing all the different takes on hypnosis. I think Jon Chase is a shining example of how pure arrogance is an extremely powerful tool for hypnotising people. It's a very important aspect of hypnotic intent, and something we need to all take note of and learn. That said, people, never take seriously anyone who trys to inflate your opinion of them by knocking their contempories and competition. I'd see Jon Chase as the Roy Chubby Brown of Hypnosis - Good at what he does, but arrogant, irreverant, supremist and prejudiced. Anyone who's studied NLP will find a great value to it. The Milton Erickson clip on YouTube (sneered at) is from a collection called 'Working with resistance', and the value of the clip in question is to see how Milton dealt with resistance - when the lady's hand starts to slightly lower rather than go higher, he manages the resistance by pushing her hand down all the way. Erickson brought techniques like this to the world's attention, so we wouldn't only content ourselves with really helping 20% of people, somewhat helping 60%, and being able to do nothing to help the remaining 20%, which is a typical position of a stage hypnotist.
My advice to budding hypnotists? Learn inductions and hypnotic intent from Jon Chase. He's the undisputed maestro. Ignore everything else he says. Learn elegance and refinement of your craft from Erickson, and Ericksonian approaches, including NLP.
